Observation data in the ionosphere taken by the MU radar (NetCDF format)

ResourceID
spase://IUGONET/NumericalData/RISH/misc/SGK/MUradar/mur_sgk_ionostd_netcdf

Description
The 1-hour average observation data of ion drift velocities, electron and ion temperatures and echo power in the ionosphere taken by the MU radar at Shigaraki in Shiga Prefecture, Japan (34.86N, 136.11E, 385m MSL), which has been operated in the incoherent scatter observation mode. The data are stored in the netCDF (network Common Data Form) file named (year)(month)(day)_(variable).nc. The variable abbreviations are dv, teti, and pwr which mean plasma drift, electron and ion temperatures and echo power, respectively. The plasama drift data include nine kinds of drift velocity components for eastward and northward/upward directions perpendicular to the magnetic field line, southward/upward direction parallel to the magnetic field line, vertical direction calculated from northward and southward beams, vertical direction calculated from eastward and westward beams, and for beam 1-4 directions, respectively. The azimuth and zenith angles of beam 1, 2, 3, and 4 are (355.0, 20.0), (85.0, 20.0), (175.0, 20.0), and (265.0, 20.0), respectively, in unit of degree. The temperature data include electron and ion temperature, their error values, condition code and signal to noise ratio between 228.5 and 724.6 km. The echo power data show the intensity of electromagnetic wave reflected from the ionosphere between 80 and 1,200 km for radar beam 1-4 directions. The value of -999.0 means missing data. Local time (UT + 09:00) is used for time data. The plasma drift and temperature data are essential for understanding of ionospheric plasma dynamics and chemical reactions of electron and ions in the middle latitude.
